- A thousand years ago, horse owners began to protect their horses hoofs.
- Originally, booties were made from hides and woven from plants.
- In Roman times, leather and metal "hipposandals" fitted over the horse's feet and fastened with leather straps like the owners' sandals.
- Metal shoes began to be nailed to the horses' feet in the sixth and seventh century.
- Horseshoeing became a mainstream practice around 1000 AD
- Cast from Bronze, the shoes were lightweight and had a scalloped outer rim with six nail holes.
- As time passed, the shoes became more rounded, held eight nails and were slightly heavier.
- "Good Luck" began to be associated with shoes in the 13th and 14th centuries.
- Fred Harman is the author of The Red Ryder Comic Books
- In lieu of payment, he gave Ed Bohlin the registered trademark to the Bucking Horse.
- Used on the cover of our 1938 catalogue, the Bucking Horse image has become synonymous with the Bohlin company.
